experimenting with a max patch i built for drone music. i wanted to have a playable instrument that allowed me to bend the pitch of 8 drones individually of one another. essentially an organ whose pitches could be twisted and turned between standard, western notes.

i recorded this improvisation at my kitchen table with a midi controller (in charge of the pitch) and sequencer (looping the descending bass figure) in january, 2025 and then re-amplified it through my installation private ceremony at Outhouse Gallery in Brunswick Park, camberwell in august.

the installation includes self built speakers, one made of aluminium and two of foam board adorned with percussive elements. the aluminum provides unusual, metallic resonances and the percussion accentuates the note relationships played through the speakers. when the pitches in the improv bend close to one another the elements vibrate at different rates as a result of the 'beating' in perceived volume created when two or more tones share a similar frequency.
